International Hummus Day - 13 May

Few dishes have travelled as widely or adapted as easily as hummus. With roots in Middle Eastern cuisine, it has become a global staple, found everywhere from street food stalls to modern office lunches.

International Hummus Day is a celebration of that versatility. At its core, hummus is made from just a handful of ingredients, but the result is something both rich and balanced. Chickpeas provide plant based protein and fibre, while tahini and olive oil add depth and healthy fats.

From a catering perspective, hummus works particularly well because it fits into so many formats. It can be part of a grazing platter, used as a base in wraps, or served alongside vegetables for a lighter option. It also naturally caters to a wide range of dietary preferences without needing adjustment.

What makes hummus stand out is that it doesn’t feel like a compromise. It’s a dish people choose for its flavour as much as its nutritional value.

At Masons Kitchen, hummus plays a key role across our vegetarian and plant based range. It adds colour, texture, and a sense of variety to menus, helping create options that feel both modern and satisfying.

International Hummus Day is a good excuse to bring something a little more vibrant to the table, without overcomplicating things.
